Kitsilano — a backyard built to be used

Kitsilano lots don’t give you much room to work with, so every square foot has to earn its place. The brief here was simple to say and harder to do: a backyard living area you’d actually want to spend time in, without paving over what made the yard nice in the first place.

So we built it to hold both. Concrete where it does the work — the living area, the surfaces you use — and restraint everywhere else, so the greenery still gets its say. On a tight city lot, that balance is the whole job.

The result is a backyard that works for how people actually live outdoors, which is the only test that matters.
